Welcome

A good life has people in it. Friends who know the long version of the story, men and women both. This edition is about building a social life worth having, and being the one who brings everyone together.

The big one

Build the room you want to be in

Most men do not have a social life. They have a job, a group chat, and a few nights a year when everything lines up. A real social life is built, and somebody has to build it. Make it you.

Start with a table and a date. Dinner, a rooftop, a run, a party at your place. Make it something you would repeat, because the second one matters more than the first. That is when people start believing it will happen again.

Mix the room. A table of guys talking about guys gets old fast. Invite the women you know, the friend who brings friends, the guy with stories, the one who makes everyone laugh. A mixed circle makes a better night, and a better life.

Here is the part men get wrong. Not every beautiful woman in your life has to be a prospect. Some of the best people you will ever know are women you never sleep with, by your choice. When you decide a friendship is a friendship, say so clearly and mean it. Not as a move, and not to make her want you, but because you value her as she is. A man who can do that carries a different kind of confidence, and he ends up with more people around him.

Friendship is a choice, not a consolation prize.

Your male friends still matter. When one of them wins, buy dinner and ask how it happened. When one is struggling, make a specific offer you will keep. Strong friendships with men are part of the circle, not the whole of it.

Be generous without becoming the group’s unpaid concierge. Make the first few plans, then hand the next one to someone else. Show up when you said you would, pay your share without an investigation, keep private stories private. Small habits are what get you invited to the next thing.

Belonging is not something you wait to be offered. A month from now you will have either four more weeks of “we need to catch up,” or a place you go together and a story from last time. Send the invitation while you are thinking about it.

Department

After Hours

An adult woman on friendship, attraction and the friend zone.

Cover portrait and two frames chosen with her: a full portrait and a detail or personality shot. Licensed for web, email and social.

The questions
  1. How do you feel when a guy you like tells you he sees you like a sister?
  2. Can you be real friends with a man you find attractive? What makes it work, or not?
  3. What do men misunderstand about the women in their social circle?
Pending · Her words

Her answers, 100 to 180 words, as she wrote them, plus a 60-word introduction from Ricardo on what caught his attention. Ask about her own experience; she is free to disagree with us. Follow up on boundaries, reciprocity and how it actually works. Credit her and the photographer; link the work she wants seen.

Original photograph of the place.

Soundtrack · Ricardo’s pick, linked through an official platform
Pending · True scene

One true gathering from Ricardo: who was at the table, what was on, and the moment it turned into a good night. 150 to 250 words, with one group photograph cleared by everyone in it.

Department

The Move

A table for four, mixed

Invite three people to one simple plan you can repeat, and do not make it all men. Tell them what it is and what it costs. Before anyone leaves, put the next date on the calendar. Then hand out jobs: someone picks the next place, someone brings the music, someone brings a friend worth meeting.

Department

Good Taste

Hosting starts before the door opens

Give people the useful details: where, when, what kind of evening, and whether to eat first. At home, have water out, enough chairs, a clean bathroom, and music low enough for a story. Good hospitality is a series of small decisions made before anyone arrives.

Department

Short Game

  • The second gathering matters more than the first.
  • A table of only guys is a meeting. Mix it.
  • If it is a friendship, say so, and mean it.
  • Tell people what it costs before they come.
  • Introduce people with a reason, then get out of the way.
